Passenger Name Record (PNR)
A booking record holding passenger and itinerary data, identified by a booking reference code. It's the master record airlines, agencies and booking tools all reference when looking up or modifying a trip. A single PNR can cover multiple travellers and flight segments booked together.
A PNR contains several mandatory elements, often remembered as PRINT: a phone or contact detail, the name of the person who made the booking, the itinerary, the passenger name and the ticketing arrangement. It can also include frequent flyer numbers, special service requests such as meals or assistance, passport details required for international travel and internal remarks. The booking reference is usually a six-character code, and the same trip may have different reference codes in the agency's system and in the airline's own system.
For companies, PNR data is the basis of many travel processes. It feeds itineraries, allows travel managers to know where employees are for duty of care, and provides the raw data for reporting and analysis. Because PNRs contain personal data, they are subject to data protection regulations, and airlines may be required to share certain PNR data with border authorities for international flights.
In Tumodo, every booking is stored within the employee's trip together with its tickets, vouchers and travel plan, so travellers and coordinators do not need to search for booking codes in emails. Loyalty numbers from the traveller's profile are added to bookings, and finance teams can find any invoice or accounting document by employee name, ticket number or trip number. All documents are available online at any time.
