IATA

The International Air Transport Association, which sets industry standards and accredits participants. It represents the majority of the world's airlines and sets many of the technical and commercial standards the industry relies on, from ticketing formats to distribution standards like NDC. Travel agencies and TMCs typically need IATA (or equivalent regional) accreditation to issue airline tickets.

IATA was founded in 1945 and today represents around 350 airlines, which together account for more than 80% of global air traffic. Its work covers a wide range of areas: safety and security standards, airline codes and ticketing formats, the Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) that manages payments between agencies and airlines, cargo standards, environmental initiatives and industry data and forecasts. IATA also accredits travel agencies, which allows them to issue tickets on behalf of member airlines. Its headquarters are in Montreal, Canada.

For companies choosing a travel provider, IATA accreditation is an important indicator of reliability. Accredited agencies must meet financial and operational requirements and follow standard procedures for ticketing, refunds and settlements. IATA standards also shape many aspects of the traveller's experience, from the three-letter airport codes on boarding passes to electronic tickets and the NDC standard used to distribute modern airline offers. IATA also publishes regular forecasts and data on passenger demand, airline profitability and fuel prices, which travel managers can use to anticipate how fares may develop.

Tumodo is an IATA-certified company. It issues airline tickets for corporate clients on flights from 500+ airlines, with prices direct from suppliers and no hidden markups. Companies pay one provider rather than dealing with each airline separately, while invoices, accounting documents and refund certificates are generated automatically — all within one platform supported by a 24/7 team. IATA certification also gives clients confidence in how ticketing, refunds and exchanges are handled.
