Frequent Flyer Programme
An airline loyalty programme that awards miles/points for flights, redeemable for benefits. Travellers earn miles based on distance flown or amount spent, which can later be redeemed for free flights, upgrades or other perks. Companies often set policy on how employees can use personally earned miles from business travel.
Most frequent flyer programmes have two types of currency. Award miles or points are earned on flights and with partners — hotels, car rental companies, credit cards — and can be spent on flights, upgrades and other rewards. Status or tier points determine the member's level, such as silver, gold or platinum, which unlocks benefits like lounge access, priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage and better chances of upgrades. Many programmes are linked through airline alliances, so miles can be earned and used across partner airlines.
For companies, frequent flyer programmes can be both an asset and a challenge. Status benefits make business travel more comfortable and productive, and some airlines offer corporate programmes that reward the company as well as the traveller. On the other hand, the desire to collect personal miles can lead employees to choose more expensive flights or book outside the managed channel. A clear policy — for example, allowing personal miles as long as the flight complies with policy — helps balance these interests.
Tumodo supports both personal and corporate loyalty. Travellers can add their frequent flyer numbers to their profile and earn miles on business trips, and seats can even be paid for with miles through the platform. Companies can join corporate airline loyalty programmes: they sign an agreement with the carrier, list Tumodo as their supplier, and Tumodo connects the programme to the company's account using the airline's tour code, giving access to discounts and bonuses.
