Corporate credit card
A company card used to pay an employee's business expenses while travelling. It's issued in the employee's name but billed to the company, and its use is typically restricted to business-related spend under the travel and expense policy. Corporate cards give finance teams visibility into spend as it happens, rather than waiting for an expense report.
Corporate cards are typically issued by banks or card networks under a programme agreed with the company. There are two main liability models: corporate liability, where the company is responsible for paying the balance, and individual liability, where the employee settles the bill and claims reimbursement. Card programmes usually include spending limits, merchant category restrictions and detailed transaction data that can be fed directly into expense management software.
For employees, a corporate card removes the need to use personal funds on business trips. For finance teams, it provides real-time visibility of spending and makes reconciliation easier, since each transaction is recorded electronically. However, cards still require employees to submit receipts and explain expenses, and card use for large items such as flights and hotels spreads travel spend across many individual accounts, making it harder to see the full picture of company travel.
Tumodo offers companies an alternative for their main travel costs. Flights, hotels, rail tickets, car transfers and other services booked on the platform are paid centrally by the company, in advance or on postpayment, so employees do not need to put these costs on personal or corporate cards. Invoices and closing documents are generated automatically, and on-trip expenses can be captured by scanning receipts in the Tumodo mobile app.
