Bleisure

Combining a business trip with leisure (business + leisure). A traveller extends a business trip, often over a weekend, to enjoy personal time in the destination before or after their work obligations. Companies need clear policy on how costs are split and what liability applies during the personal portion of a bleisure trip.

Bleisure trips are popular because they allow employees to see more of the places they visit for work, often at little extra cost. A common scenario is extending a trip that ends on a Friday into the weekend, or arriving a few days early for a conference. Surveys consistently show that many business travellers would like to add leisure time to their trips, especially younger employees and those travelling to attractive destinations.

A clear bleisure policy should answer several questions. Who pays for extra hotel nights and any fare difference caused by changing the return date? Is the traveller covered by company insurance during the leisure days? Are companions allowed, and at whose expense? Does duty of care continue during personal time? Companies should also check whether the extension has tax implications. When these rules are clear, bleisure can be a low-cost benefit that improves employee satisfaction.

Tumodo supports bleisure through its Vacation mode. Employees can switch to Vacation mode in their personal account to book flights and accommodation for personal travel, pay for these services with their own card and use not only personal bonuses but also corporate rates. This makes it easy to separate business and personal costs while giving employees access to the same convenient platform and prices.
